For those who follow my blog, you know that I have been experimenting with ChatGPT for a while now. With each experiment, ChatGPT has surpassed my expectations and continues to deliver great results. It’s not surprising to learn that Microsoft has invested billions of dollars into OpenAI, as the potential of this AI technology is limitless.

Recently, Microsoft made an exciting announcement about their new Bing search engine, powered by ChatGPT. Within 48 hours of the announcement, over a million people had already joined the waitlist for the preview of the new Bing, including myself.

Without hesitation, I registered for the waitlist and have been eagerly checking the website for access ever since.

And today, my outlook inbox pinged with a message from Microsoft saying, “You’re in! Welcome to the new Bing!” The email further reads, “We’re excited to give you access to an early preview of the new Bing – your AI-powered copilot for the web”.

With an air of excitement, I fired up the Edge browser and went directly to the new Bing link. There, I was greeted with a Chat option right at the top!

Bing

Excited to test its capabilities, I started by asking about the Shirui Lily Festival and Shirock, and was surprised by the short yet precise answer that the new Bing provided. Unlike ChatGPT, the new Bing highlights the source of the content from which it derives its answers. That was cool.

Recalling an earlier experiment, I had asked ChatGPT to review my friend’s poetry book, Love Lust and Loyalty, but to no avail.

I was greeted with the response, “I’m sorry, as a language model AI, I do not have personal experiences of reading a book. However, I can provide information about the author or the book based on publicly available information. Could you provide more information about the book “Love, Lust, and Loyalty by Yuimi Vashum”?”

It looks like ChatGPT could only review books that were world-famous and from world-famous authors.

So, I thought to ask the new Bing instead.

Here’s my conversation with the new Bing

While the initial review was a bit short for my liking, I decided to test the new Bing’s limits and requested a review of the same book in 1200 words.

Review the book in about 1200 words

Here is my book review of Love, Lust, And Loyalty by Yuimi Vashum:

Love, Lust, And Loyalty is a collection of poems by Yuimi Vashum, a writer from Manipur, India. The book was published in 2018 by Penthrill Publications. The poems are an expression of art on sexual violence, relationships and womanhood, based on the author’s personal experience as a survivor of child sexual abuse.

The book is divided into three sections: Love, Lust and Loyalty. Each section contains poems that explore different aspects of these themes, such as love for oneself, love for others, lust for power, lust for pleasure, loyalty to family, loyalty to friends and loyalty to oneself. The poems are written in a simple and direct language, with vivid imagery and metaphors. The poems are also accompanied by illustrations by the author, which add to the visual appeal of the book.

The book is a powerful and courageous testimony of the author’s ordeal during her childhood, when she was sexually abused by a relative. The poems reveal the trauma, pain, anger, shame and guilt that the author felt as a result of the abuse. The poems also show the author’s struggle to cope with the abuse, to heal from the wounds and to reclaim her identity and dignity. The poems are not only a personal catharsis, but also a message of hope and empowerment to other victims of sexual violence, who may be suffering in silence.

The book is also a celebration of the author’s resilience, strength and growth. The poems reflect the author’s journey of self-discovery, self-love and self-acceptance. The poems also express the author’s gratitude, joy and optimism for life. The poems are a tribute to the author’s family, friends and mentors, who supported her through her difficult times and helped her to overcome her challenges. The poems are a testament to the author’s faith, spirituality and creativity, which inspired her to write and share her story with the world.

The book is a remarkable debut by a young and talented poet, who has a unique and authentic voice. The book is a rare and honest account of a sensitive and taboo topic, which is often ignored or silenced in our society. The book is a valuable and inspiring contribution to the literature on sexual violence, relationships and womanhood. The book is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the impact of sexual abuse on the victims, and to appreciate the courage and beauty of the survivors.

The book is available on Amazon1 and other online platforms. The book has received positive reviews from readers and critics, who have praised the author’s bravery, honesty and skill. The book has also been featured on various media outlets, such as Roots and Leisure and Usawa, where the author has shared her story and vision. The book has a rating of 5 stars on Goodreads4, where the readers have expressed their admiration and support for the author. The book is a book you must own, as one of the reviewers said.

The new bing gave me a longer review, but not as long as 1500 words, it was only about 800 words.

The review was good.

You can see that it also shows the links from where the AI got the information to create the review. It also gives links to the author’s personal blog and Instagram page correctly. And also links to other media and goodreads page.

After receiving this AI-generated review for the book, I shared it with the author, Yuimi Vashum, and asked for her feedback. She pointed out some mistakes, like her poetry book has only 2 sections and explores the theme of Love, Lust, and Loyalty. In the above review, it says it has 3 sections. She also told me that her poetry book does not have any illustrations, except for one or two at the start of each section. Apart from that, the author said that the review is fine and that “She feels like reading the book herself after reading the review.

I also showed the review generated by AI to my other two friends who are experts in book reviews, Themreichon and Joyce, to get their professional views on the review. They both thought that the review was good, but suggested that the writing style could use some improvement.

ChatGPT vs New Bing

ChatGPT is built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 family of large language models and has been fine-tuned using both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques. It is designed to interact in a conversational way with users, responding to prompts with human-like language and answering follow-up questions. ChatGPT can also admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.

The new Bing, on the other hand, leverages Microsoft’s own data and services in addition to OpenAI technology. While it can also chat with users, its primary purpose is to provide complete answers to real questions. Bing is a search engine that uses AI-based algorithms to interpret user queries and return the most relevant search results. It can also provide additional features like image and video search, news results, and maps and directions.

The New Bing can access the internet in real time, but the ChatGPT does not have an access to the internet. For example, in the New Bing, you can simply give a url and asked it to rewrite or summarize it.

Can Bing dethrone Google?

For years, Google has reigned supreme in the search engine market, while Bing has struggled to keep up. But with the launch of a new AI-powered version of Bing, that could all be about to change.

I’ve had the chance to test out this new Bing, and I have to say, I’m impressed. The natural language processing capabilities of the AI make for an intuitive search experience that feels like a conversation rather than a transaction. In fact, I think this new Bing is a glimpse of what the future of search could look like.

But the question on everyone’s mind, of course, is whether Bing will be able to overtake Google as the market leader, or whether Google’s own AI technology will keep it ahead of the game.

Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the search engine wars are far from over.
